I have given myself a slightly unattainable deadline, of two weeks to create a new career opportunity. Starting today.
I like the day job I have now, it pays decent and the environment is decent. But that’s all it will ever be, is decent. And, I want more. Which I know is both an empowering statement, and a humanity glitch. My end game, honestly, isn’t anything special – but I just want to be able to work remotely, and write for a living. Whatever that may end up looking like.
Right now, I am in an office for eight hours a day, and these days I get to end my day with an ear ache, and a depleted dreamer battery. But I can feed myself and make rent, and that has always been the push to show up everyday. Yet, part of me wonders if I could change that narrative, and have the push be purely to create and no longer rest on just surviving. Oh, how wonderful that would be. I’m almost certain I’m not alone with that one.
But the thing is, I’m not sure if I will be able to accomplish this in two weeks, but I am going to try like hell to get it started. One of my biggest fears in life is to spend my life chasing after someone else’s dream. So why not give it a shot myself. I will continue working at my day job in the meantime, carving out IT migrations, and answering support tickets, but in my free time, I am promising myself to do the following;
- Post on here every day for the next two weeks
- Work out for 30 mins a day, whilst listening to an audio book (Yes, I count vacuuming as a work out)
- Read for at least 15 mins a day
- Spam my resume out there, and spend some quality time on LinkedIn to network everyday
So hopefully, by me sharing this, it will hold me a little more accountable. I will also be posting my meanderings about how its all going! I’m sure we will fail a little, but that’s all a part of it. This is pretty scary for me.
SO, what do you guys think? Any recommendations on how to create your own opportunity? Let me know!
Keep the motivation (I know it is hard sometimes), keep thinking of what YOU want, keep working at it, keep perfecting it. Shut down that internal editor/moderator. Do what makes you happy! I maintain my office job to keep our bills paid. But on my time, I get to follow my dreams. Eventually the need for working for someone else will subside. Stay the course! Good luck out there!
Thank you, Yorkeled! I really appreciate your thoughtful and kind support!
I’m curious to see what will happen over the course of these two weeks! It should make for an interesting experiment. I hope you’ll find a next path through it!
Thank you! It definitely will, that is what I was thinking too!
Those sound like some pretty top-notch habits to practise! We are the sum of our habits after all, and once time passes, I’m sure you’ll create more opportunities through the discipline you’ve cultivated!
I’m really hoping so! Thank you for your kind comment. 🙂
Great post thanks 🥰
